This symbol represents the Vine Tree and covers birthdays from Sept 2nd to Sept 29th

We had a lovely day yesterday. Since Chris's birthday had kind of been hijacked by the book launch we decided to celebrate it today. We spent the morning meandering around Covent Garden (Fopp and Forbidden Planet), met up with Tom for lunch, went to our favourite wine bar, The Cork and Bottle, for dinner and then spent the evening at the Comedy Store in Piccadilly.
It was a very funny and drunken night!

Today we went to the British Museum. I've not been in years and Chris had never been...we had a great morning meandering around although we probably didn't even get to see a quarter of what was there. Did enjoy the Egyptian artefacts and the big old Enlightenment Room.

This symbol represents the Hazel Tree and covers birthdays from August 5th to Sept 1st

OMG the book launch was amazing! It was so brilliant to see everyone especially Jenny who flew over from Bangkok! We hadn't been able to get together the last few times she was over so it was really good to see her. I also hadn't realised that it had been so long since I'd seen the lovely Leigh, DJ and Sue...all of whom I would not have met if it hadn't been for blogging (I wouldn't have met Helen either come to think of it!). The panel discussion was really interesting, the string quartet amazing and I have to give BIG thanks to Leigh who shared her glass of wine with me cause I had been too busy to grab one!

I sold 9 pictures (Woo exciting), was asked about illustrating another two books and made some fab work contacts too (Inc one who wants me to write a bit about the dementia work I'm doing for the Dementia Journal)

You can buy a copy of the book here

(We're off to Wales for the weekend. We're going to climb a mountain...I'm really looking forward to it but I'm also a bit apprehensive to be honest cause I've not been out walking as much as I would have liked recently! Hope I don't end up in as much pain as I was in the last time I climbed a mountain!)

I have an idea!

Each of these symbols is linked to a tree and to a month...soooo if I separate them out then I could paint the symbol onto it's corresponding wood. I think that would make a rather lovely birthday gift and they could be hung on the wall without the expense of having to get a picture framed. (Anyone any idea where I might be able to source wood for this? I'm thinking....slice through a branch so that I would have a round shape (ideally with the bark still on the outside), sand the middle till it's smooth, paint the symbol onto it and then attach a wee hook. Think this is a good idea?).

I think you can probably guess what the next few pictures are going to be

This symbol represents the Birch Tree and covers birthdays from Dec 24th to Jan 20th.

Carol # 2

The more I looked at it the more I thought 'I should really colour that in'. I'm now thinking 'Ooooh those symbols might make a rather lovely tattoo', not my name obviously, but I may play about with that idea over the next couple of days!

Saturday, 6 October 2012

We went to Centre Parks for a couple of days to visit our lovely friends Steve, Michelle and their gorgeous little girl Sofia (they were there on holiday and we gate crashed...tis ok...we were invited!). It was in Longleat forest and it was just stunning! (We had such a good laugh....the cabin they had rented had a hot tub... we had champagne and ferrero rocher in the hot tup in the rain at midnight!) Anyway, whilst we were meandering about it made me realise just how much I have forgotten about plants and...well...nature in general. I used to know loads when I was a kid so when we got back I started googling (cause google knows everything!) and came across an ancient celtic language dating from the 4th century. Now, anyone that knows me will know how fond I am of symbols so I couldn't resist having a play around with it. This says Carol :-).

(Oh, and if your wondering how I came across it...the alphabet consists of twenty letters, each named for a different tree believed to be sacred)

Patchwork Sofa # 4

Yay!! It make take me a while but I always get there in the end!
I'm rather liking this one :-)

Wednesday, 3 October 2012

Patchwork Sofa # 3

I really liked yesterdays stitched sofa so I thought I would go with the stitching idea and work the patchwork back in. This is much better than the last one! Wonder if I did it again and kept the white spaces it would work with the zentangles....might have a go at doing that tomorrow!

Stitched Sofa

After yesterdays disaster I thought I might approach it in a different way. I wondered what it might look like if I stitched round the outline so when I was heading into London today I took my needle and thread with me and did this on the train. Hehehe, I did get some odd looks :-)

Patchwork Sofa # 2

Well, it was a good idea but I think this is overkill! Waaaay too much!!
