As we were unpacking I came across some photo's that we had taken when we went to Amsterdam so I thought I would have a go at doing a continuous line drawing of one of them.
I'm pleased with the way this turned out!

The Aliens Are Amongst Us

What can I say? I was listening to Muse 'Plug In Baby' and was inspired by the video! This is my version of their alien women!

She's In Fashion # 2

I really like the shape of yesterdays drawing so thought I would do the same thing that I tried with the 'Kid With Balloons' and I think it really worked!

Kid With Balloons # 3

Yay, not sinister at all!! I'm pleased with how this turned out!

Kid With Balloons # 2

Erm, I don't think this one is any better!! I think I will try leaving the face white and using collage for the body...that might make it less sinister looking!

Kid With Balloons

Yikes, this has turned out slightly more sinister than I had planned! It wasn't meant to be...

Thursday, 23 August 2012

The guys we hired to move us worked their socks off and did a great job bringing everything up and down three flights of stairs BUT I think they may have had one brain cell between them! Despite being told not to take any of the white goods from the old house they took the washing machine (and put it on the then leaked water all over it!) and the dishwasher....they had to be told to take them back and that yes, we did want the washing machine plumbed back in! They also took our neighbours bikes and I had to text them to let them know that they had not been stolen then, when they were unpacking, they just stacked the boxes in the most ridiculous manner ensuring that, by the time they had finished, we couldn't get into any room in the house! I was nearly in tears...everywhere I looked were walls of boxes!!

On a happier note, Chris was a wee sweetie last night. When he was away dropping off the bits and bobs at the new house he popped into John Lewis and bought us new bedding, new posh towels (that match our decor!) and a box of chocolates then he went and made up the bedroom as a surprise for me! How lovely was that!! I do love him loads!

So it doesn't take a genius to work out that this is a print of bubble wrap!

The guys that are doing our packing are here today. I'm glad they are here because, to be honest, I don't think that I have the energy to pack everything after the last few days! Mind you, in saying that, one of them is extremely odd! He keeps speaking to me in baby he would talk to a four year is most disconcerting! Chris has headed off to the new house with a few bits and bobs (we're staying there for the first time tonight) and I've asked him not to be too long....the guy is creeping me out and I don't want to be on my own with him if I can help it!

Ikea (BCD)

We went to Ikea today (aided by the lovely Sarah and Aaron) to get the furniture we need for the new house (Figured it was easier to get the furniture and build it before everything else arrives!). Everything went according to plan except we had a slight communication failure regarding the size of our bed. We had decided that we would upgrade from a double to a king...what Chris heard was 'Just buy the biggest' so he did. We now have a super king size bed! I think I may end up having to send him postcards from my side! It's HUGE!! Well, the mattress is huge...the bed is not actually built yet!

Paint Pots

Today we have mostly been painting!

The living room is green! It looked a nice shade in the catalogue...and in the paint pot...and on the first wall...but once we had done all three...well, it looked a bit like a Dr's waiting room. Hospital waiting room green! Instead of being a fresh green it looks a kind of blue/green and that's not the colour we're hoping for! I think we might have to paint over it which is work we just don't want to have to do!!

Perhaps I will like it tomorrow *crosses fingers*

Flowering Tree Reflection

I didn't need to worry about the new house! It's just as fab as I remember it! Spent most of the day painting...the bedroom is now Raw Earth brown with a Dragon Blood red feature wall and it looks great (even if I do say so myself!).

I'm still thinking what I can do for my patient as a thank you. I like this but I think I'm going down the wrong track...will go back to the drawing board tomorrow.

New House Keys

We get the keys to our new house today. I was expecting to be really excited but actually I just feel nervous and a bit sick. We've only seen it twice...for about 20 minutes in total...what if we get the keys and I don't like it!! *gulps*

I'm doing these to keep my mind off it all. They are inspired by the Beardsley illustrations I was looking at yesterday and are my version of his initial keys. Most of these feature C, for Carol and Chris, B, for Burns, and H, for Home.

Flowering Tree

I got a lovely surprise today. The postman knocked on the door and handed me this HUGE parcel...I had no idea what the hell it was. It turned out that one of my patients had remembered that it was my birthday and she had given me a beautiful book of illustrations by Beardsley! Her note said that my drawings made her think of him (Which I think is a massive compliment!). I'm going to do a picture for her as a thank you using Beardsley as my inspiration. Today's drawing is the starting point!

Hot Air Balloon # 4

So next time I think it's a good idea to use thread to simulate a woven basket please slap me and tell me not to go there! Blimey it took aaagggeeesss and was very fiddly!
Still, it does look like a proper basket :-)

Hot Air Balloon # 3

So, doing a drawing a day has proven impossible to do whilst moving house!! The stress of packing everything up, trying to paint the new house prior to the move, building furniture and dealing with the muppets that did our removal proved too much for me! I am now going to try and do two a day till I have made up the ones I have missed because I really want to end up with 365 drawings at the end of the year. I have taken a note of significant things that happened over the period so that I can still do a drawing related to what was going on.

(There will still be the opportunity to win a drawing in August it will just take me a while to catch up but once I do normal service will be resumed!)

Hot Air Balloon

Had a lovely day today...not sure if Chris would agree...but I had a lovely day today. It started with coffee and biscuits at our lovely friends Steve and Michelle's new house. (Ok, so it wasn't just coffee...we had prosecco and chocolates...but we did have coffee too!). Then we went into Bristol and went to Ikea to have a look at what we might get for the new house (this is the bit that Chris won't agree with...he hates Ikea with a passion) and then we drove home.

So why, I hear you ask, have you drawn a hot air balloon for todays drawing? Well, it was Bristol's hot air balloon festival this weekend and we saw lots of them on our journeys there and back :-)
(See, all makes perfect sense now doesn't it!)

Red # 3

All in all...I preferred the blues but if I had to pick from the reds I would say that this one is my favourite...still think it looks a bit like blood running down the page but I like it!
(Not really sure what that says about me!)

Red # 2

I'm liking this one better. It's interesting...although all these have been done using the same set of watercolour paints the blues seems to be easier to handle. Wonder if that's got anything to do with the pigment of them? Whatever it is I think I'm starting to get the hang of the reds!

Thursday, 9 August 2012

Red # 1 not really liking this but I think it may have more to do with the execution of the painting rather than the idea! I'll try another combination tomorrow.

Blues # 4

Decided to see what this would look like if I combined the three squares and continued with the drip idea. I'm quite enjoying the randomness of these!
Wonder what these would look like in red....hmmm...

Blues # 3

I'm really liking this one but I think I could do more with it. Hmmm, for some reason my cropping is not showing when I upload the picture here which is why you can see the pencil line round the edge. Oh well...

(Have just finished my watercolour sketchbook! Will pick up another one tomorrow)

Blues # 2

I rather like how this one has turned out. I didn't use the masking tape this time and that made a big difference but I did use salt to soak up some of the paint and that has added some texture to the painting. The photo is not brilliant so you can't really see it...but I think I will do some more experimenting with it tomorrow...perhaps let the paint drip down.

Blues # 1

We've been listening to quite a lot of Blues music since coming back from WOMAD so I thought I would try and translate that into a painting. I think this works as an idea but the execution is not there. I used masking tape round the squares and when I took it off it ripped a bit of the paper and caused the blue smudge. (Mind you...I could still get prints made of it cause the imperfections could be removed after it had been scanned. Hmmm....)

Put Your Feet Up

Today has been all about putting the feet up and watching the Olympics!

(I've tried to do the feet in the style of Egon Schiele. I don't think I have done them 'Ugly' enough but I am rather pleased with how they turned out!)

Ukulele # 2 (BCD)

I had to re-visit my lovely Ukulele because the last drawing did it no justice what-so-ever! I'm liking this one much has more soul!

Happy Birthday To Me

Have had a lovely day (thank you Sarah, Steve, Michelle and Sofia) and am now very much looking forward to the steak that my lovely husband is currently cooking for me!

Wednesday, 1 August 2012

Chris has got me a rather gorgeous blue Ukulele for my Birthday. My Grampa used to play and, since he's been in my thoughts a lot recently, I thought I might have a go at learning. It's wee and blue and beautiful so if I can't get to grips with it I shall just display it on a shelf!

(I am so tired...and this drawing is a bit shit....but my get up and go has truly got up and buggered off so this is what you are getting!)
