To Stop Consuming's To Stop Being Human

I was planning to do a tangle of Join The Dots # 6 today. I got on the tube and switched on my iPod and the Gotye song 'Eyes Wide Open' was playing (It's a fab on the link if you've not heard it!). When he sang the lyrics

'But it was like to stop consuming's
to stop being human
and why'd I make a change if you won't?'

In my head I saw rows and rows of teeth leaving nothing in their wake. This is what I came up with.
(I shall do the tangle tomorrow)

Coffee Guy

The heavens opened when I was on my way to the station so I ducked into a coffee shop to wait! I spotted this business man, thought he looked a bit like John Prescott so I decided to do a quick BCD of him. (I do seem to be spending rather a lot of time in coffee shops recently!)

What Happens In The Middle # 2

This is the expansion of Join The Dots # 6.
I think it looks a bit like a cracked window.

Join The Dots # 6

What I was going to say about this has been completely blown out the water by the news we got today. Tom's tumours have shrunk again and he's now going to be treatment free for at least three months!   Totally over the moon for him!!

In other fabulous news...the offer Chris and I put in for the Town House was accepted.
OMG I think we have just bought a house!!

And here is the Zentangle of the image.
It took me all bloomin' day but I enjoyed every minute of it!

What Happens In The Middle (From 'Join The Dots' to 'Untitled')

I thought you might be interested in seeing the process I go through to get from a 'Join The Dots' picture to my 'Untitled' version based upon it. Normally I just go ahead and tangle them but I thought I would share the middle stage of the drawing because sometimes they are a drawing in themselves. I like the shape and simplicity of this one. When I look at it I see a woman standing with her back to us wearing a long cape. I can't decide if she is anxiously waiting for a lover or whether she is all bitter and twisted and waiting to do someone wrong.

Costa Coffee

I was in London today and had an hour to kill whilst waiting for my train so I thought I would do a BCD of the Costa Coffee sign. I think I'm definitely getting better at doing these!

(The offer that we submitted for the big house was rejected. Neither of us were particularly surprised as it was a cheeky offer (Well, nothing ventured nothing gained and all that). We were going to up it today but I was in meetings all afternoon and didn't get the chance to speak to the Estate Agent. I actually don't think that is a bad will give the owners a chance to think things over and they might be more receptive to our higher offer on Monday. I shall keep you posted!)

Join The Dots # 5

I've just done this to try and keep my mind off the fact that we have put an offer in on a house.
Am feeling a bit sick to be honest!
(and have a horrible feeling that this is going to be the start of a long process!)

After A While They All Start To Look The Same

Well, the title says it all really! We've now seen so many places that they have all started to blend together.  The one we saw this afternoon was a no...the house was nice but the area was really pretty grim so we've arranged to go back to see the new build (HUGE) house and the 1930's Art Deco one. I'm hoping that after seeing them again tomorrow we will be in a position to make a decision and make an offer.
Keep your fingers crossed for us!

Woman In Starbucks

Chris went into the office this morning to do a few e-mails before we went house hunting so I decided to park my bum in Starbucks and have a coffee. I knew that I would struggle to get a drawing done today if I didn't make the most of my time so here is a sketch of the woman sitting in front of me.

The house hunting went well but we have a dilemma. Do we go for the one that has captured our hearts (1930's house, original doors, wooden floors, stain glass windows, two bay windows...but has only 2 useable bedrooms the third is so small Chris wouldn't actually be able to lie down in it, a small (but perfectly formed) kitchen, 1 pretty small bathroom and a BIG garden that would take some managing ) or the one that would give us a shed load of space (HUGE kitchen diner, walking distance of Old Town, small manageable garden, four..yes..four double bedrooms, large hallway and 3 bathrooms with main bedroom on suite but it is a new build (4 years old) and lacks charm). Both are in nice areas (we checked the crime statistics), both are near schools (so easily sold on), both have visitor parking, both have garages and they are both the same price!

(We're seeing another one tomorrow which is a lot cheaper and which looks a decent size but we're not sure about the area so it could all change tomorrow or it could stay the same.
This is stressful and we've not even put an offer in anywhere yet!)

Garden Chair

Time was short today so I drew a picture of our garden chair whilst Chris was on a conference call.

We spent the day driving round Swindon! (The fun never starts!). Since we don't really know the town we figured that the best way to start our house hunt would be to make a list of properties that looked nice and then go to look at the areas they are in to see whether we would be happy living there. We struck a lot off our list! There were some that were lovely (I Swindon...who would have thought!) so we have arranged to go see five tomorrow.

Untitled # 4

So here is the tangle of yesterdays Join The Dots.
I'm liking this one...makes me think of a tree :-)

(Chris is back from the US and I have to say that it is lovely to have him home!)

Join The Dots # 4

God only knows what inspired this! Obviously I have been left on my own for too glad Chris is back veeeerrrry glad!!

Untitled # 3.2

You know, I don't like this as much as I did # 3.1 although I think this one will work better in colour. Ah well, you live and learn.

Join The Dots # 3.2

By George I think she's got it! (and there was much rejoicing!)

Untitled # 3.1

Yup, much happier with how this has turned out. I still think it needs to be simplified so will work on doing that tomorrow but it's definitely getting there!

(Hope your not too fed up seeing these. I just like to try and get the image right before I move on and it's my blog so I can do what I like *blows raspberry and grins*)

Join The Dots # 3.1

I was looking at 'Join TheDots # 3' today and the Zentangle of it and, although I quite like them, there is something about them that is just not quite right.  I went back to my starting point, turned the image round (I had decided to work on it upside down because it wasn't abstract enough for me...I thought it still looked too much like what had inspired it), expanded it then played about with some of the lines to change the form slightly. I like this one better than my first attempt. It will be interesting to see how it looks once it's been tangled.

(I have had a few ideas about colour for this series which I think will work with the other images but I think this one will need a bit more tweaking. I think I am on the right path)

Untitled # 3

This is the Zentangle based on yesterdays 'Join The Dots'.  I like how this has turned out but I still think it it would be better if I expanded the image. I almost think there is too much going on in this!
(This definitely helped keep me occupied this evening. It took forever)

Join The Dots # 3

I'm still having some technical problems which is very frustrating! Anyway, here is what I was working on today. I'm going to have a go at Zentangling it tomorrow but I think I might enlarge it as the spaces are really quite small and I think I might get a better image out of it when it's bigger.

Saturday, 12 May 2012

Untitled # 2

I'm pleased with how this turned out but think I am going to do another one and have a play
about with the spaces.

Join The Dots # 2

I love the shapes that you find in nature.

(I'm thinking of doing a series of these...starting with the join the dots, moving on to zentangle the shapes and then I am going to try adding some colour. I will be working from home next week so it will give me the chance to have a play with the images in the evening)

To Follow Or Not To Follow? That Is The Question!

I had a much better day today! I spent a lovely hour talking with one of the elderly ladies that took part in the long-term conditions research I did last year for my dissertation. She's 71 and feisty and I totally adore her! We talked about not always choosing the path that is laid out in front of you and that sometimes taking the more scary one leads to a more fulfilling experience. I was inspired...she's inspiring! In this picture the path laid out is the one that you can see stretching into the horizon and the one less trodden is the blank squiggly one heading off to the side. I like making my life more difficult for myself...I would more often that not choose the squiggly one. Which one would you go for?

(I'm going to have to apologise for the image quality. I now have a working camera but my Macbook Air doesn't have an SD Card slot and it's not recognising the one I connected via the USB port. I'm going to have to work out how to get all my new technology working but decided, in desperation (and at the suggestion of Chris), to take a photo of the picture using the camera on the laptop)

Wednesday, 9 May 2012

I was well and truly ambushed at a meeting today. It's been a long time since that happened. I had forgotten just how horrible it is to be put in the spotlight and asked lots of questions that you can't answer. I was particularly annoyed about this one because I started off by saying that I was standing in for another member of staff, that the project was still at an embryonic stage and that I didn't think there was much that I could add to what was already known about it as I had not been involved in the discussions. That didn't stop me being quizzed, very aggressively, about what clinical route was going to be taken (How the hell should I know? I'm not a clinician!), who had been approached about it, why others hadn't been approached about it...all I could do was explain what the drivers were behind it.
It was not a fun meeting!

Paddington Butterfly

Going through Paddington today I looked up at the roof and thought that the wrought iron supports looked like wings so I thought I would try and do a butterfly. Meh, this really doesn't work for me!

Burst Of Blooms # 2

I wanted to re-visit this image and simplify it. I'm glad I did...I had fun drawing it!

Avebury to Stonehenge

We walked part of the Sarsen Trail today. We had the choice of doing 26 miles or 15...we chose the 15 (I think 26 might just have killed me!). Chris did it in a superb 3 hrs 55 minutes and I did it in a not too shabby 4 hrs 45 minutes. We got a medal for completing the route and I couldn't resist doing a drawing of the inside.

(and now I am going to put my wee sore feet up and not move...I may be not moving for some time!)

Window (Sketch)

I saw this window when we were out today and took the notion to do a quick and dirty sketch of it (It had to be quick...didn't want the people inside thinking I was scoping out the joint!). It's not the best drawing I have ever done but I enjoyed doing it so I don't care!

Friday, 4 May 2012

Not only do I have actual cats that splat I also have an ornament of a cat that splats! This is a blind contour drawing of the ornament. (I have the lovely Helen visiting today...we will be meeting for the first time despite being friends for years and I can't wait!)

Wee Wooden Woman

I'm full of the cold at the moment and am feeling pretty bloody crappy (which is not good considering that I am walking 14 miles on Sunday!). I was struggling to find inspiration today till I spotted a wee wooden figure that I bought a couple of years ago. Every time I look at her she makes me smile (It's the boobs that do it!) so I decided to have a go at doing a blind contour drawing of her. Hopefully she will make you smile too :-D

Wednesday, 2 May 2012

Oh dear! I wrote the title of this post and the minute I did the lyric 'Flash!... Ah-ahh! Saviour of the Universe!' popped into my head! And now I can't get rid of the song...
'Flash!...Ah-ahh! He'll save every one of us!'
Arg...make it stop...

And April's Winner is....

The lovely Talli Roland!

Congratulations lovely lady :-D.
Please have a look through April's pictures and select the one you would like.

Commiserations to the rest of you but hey...there is always next month!

(I am no longer putting names into a hat...there are just too many names to write out! (which is utterly wonderful :-D). I had 147 people in the draw this month so asked someone on Facebook to pick a number between 1 and 147. Number 52 was picked)

Barr's Irn-Bru

Made in Scotland...from girders! *snigger*

(I had too much to do today and not enough time to do it all in so I decided to do a
BCD of my can of Irn Bru! I will announce April's winner's too late to do the draw tonight!)
